Implementing Learning
Platforms in Bedfordshire Schools
Introduction
The Government's e-strategy sets the expectation that:
By Spring
2008,
every pupil should have access to a personalised online learning space with
the potential to support an e-portfolio (Learning Platform)
By 2010,
every school should have integrated learning and management information
systems (a comprehensive suite of learning platform technologies).
What is a
Learning Platform?
The DfES define the term ‘learning platform’ as: ‘a broad range of ICT
systems used to deliver and support learning’. It is a Virtual Learning
Environment (VLE) which becomes a Managed Learning Environment (MLE) when
integrated with schools’ Management Information Systems (MIS). The DfES’s
aspiration is that schools will have achieved this integration by 2010.
