Information Management in Schools
The Information Management Strategy (IMS) is a DCSF initiative to promote better and more effective use of management information in schools. The DCSF is keen to minimise the demands for data made on schools, to collect essential data once and use many times, to automate data collection and to improve the value of information for schools.

Reminder of CBC key messages for School Census 2010

Note issued Jan 2010:
In light of changes in the DCSF guidance relating to registration of Post 16 pupils in schools' MIS, the CBC Performance Group recommends:

schools should return to the original format of registering pupils as C (single registration) at the main school that they attend and G (guest registration) at a school they attend for particular lessons (i.e. Diplomas pupils, Post 16 pupils and pupils attending other schools as part of consortia arrangements) This change should be done with the agreement of all schools concerned with the registration of that pupil.

Preparation Guidance and Recommendations for School Census 2009 - issued by the Performance Group

Upper Schools please note following changes for Learning Aims data:
The following changes to the registration requirements for Post 16 Pupils will be introduced for Autumn 2009 School Census:
a) The requirement to record all pupils who are attending a school on a regular basis, but don’t have their main registration there, as S (subsidiary) rather than G (guest). Only pupils who attend a subsidiary school as a ‘one off’ may be recorded as G (guest).  This is in line with the Pupils Registration Regulations 2006.
b) Learning Aims must only be returned by the school who holds the 'sole' or 'main' registration
c) Any Learning Aims recorded against a pupil with dual 'subsidiary' will generate a validation error

Lower and Middle schools will not need to send CTFs to destination schools at this stage - however CTFs must be sent at the end of the term in the normal way so that destination schools can receive attendance data and any updated pupil details.
