Bedfordshire Schools' Web Site - Webmail Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions for Use

In order to protect all users and Bedfordshire County Council,  all users of this electronic mail system must comply with the following terms and conditions of use:-

  • The mail system may not be used for any commercial or mass-mailing purposes.
  • You should not give your username and password to anyone.
  • The mail system may not be used to send or receive any material which may be considered lewd, offensive, libelous, pornographic, racist or illegal.
  • Users should ensure that all data files and programs sent via this system have been checked for computer viruses. (The system should reject virus infected mail automatically)
  • Abuse of the system by others should be reported so that mail from the offending source can be refused.
  • The system operates 3 levels of spam (junk mail) and content checking.  At January 2004 over 75% of all emails received each day are rejected after being identified as spam or inappropriate.  However, no system is totally effective so teachers should monitor students' use of the system.
  • Old and unwanted messages should be removed on a regular basis.  This will enable all users to have maximum flexibility and remove the need for mailbox size limits to be imposed.

All mailboxes will be scanned and monitored electronically to ensure compliance with these terms and conditions.

The system is designed for use mainly by students and teachers in Bedfordshire Schools.  Very confidential mail should not be sent through this system as any item of mail may be inspected as part of the monitoring process to protect users and to meet DfES guidelines for school email systems.

Any user found to be using the system in an unauthorised manner will have their mailbox removed and may be subject to further action by the appropriate authorities if required.
