Peter Hemingway
Award - Additional Guidance
The prize will be awarded for the achievement of positive educational outcomes, derived in whole or part, through the use of broadband, supplied by E2BN, within the classroom. The £5000 prize will be awarded for work that has already been undertaken.
Who can enter?
Any teacher(s) or classroom assistant(s) working within
any school that receives its broadband via E2BN can be considered for this
award. Entries may be from individuals or from groups of staff working
together. We are also keen to see entries that exemplify collaboration between
schools e.g. a transition project between year 6 and year 7 or work between
neighbouring schools. Where the winning entry is a group effort between
teachers from more than one school the award will be shared equally between the
contributing schools.
What are the
judges looking for?
The judges are looking for entries that:
· Use at, least partly, broadband technology
· Demonstrate significant learning benefits to a group of students
· Could be replicated by other schools
There are no group size limits but this award is
not suitable for projects that focus on an individual student. Your project
might focus on a specific group of students – half a dozen G&T maths
students from three different schools, a Year 7 nurture group or a small group
of disaffected boys. It might encompass a small group, a class, a year group or
a key stage.
This will depend on the nature of the work undertaken.
Some entrants might be able to show impact via examination results or by
comparison of teacher assessments carried out at different points in the year.
Other projects may have focussed on changes in attitude, motivation or
engagement and so you might include teacher, parent or student testimonials.
For some projects the work produced by students may have been enabled by the
technology and so your evidence will be based around the students’ work.
After the short-listing we hope to have 8 finalists. All
finalists will be invited to attend the Peter Hemingway Award ceremony on 26th
November. Each shortlisted school will be asked to give a short presentation of
between 5 and 7 minutes telling the judges about the work, why it has been so
successful, what the benefits have been and how you intend to use the prize
money should you win. The presentation may be given by any or all of the
teachers/ classroom assistants involved in the project and/ or by the pupils
involved. The judges will then decide where to award the prize.
