Raynsford VC Lower School is a co-educational school for pupils aged 4 to 9 years with an average of 140 pupils on roll. It has strong connections with the local church as it was founded in 1826 to provide education according to the ‘principles and practices of the Church of England’. The original school building, which is almost opposite the existing school and is now a private house, had two small classrooms. The existing school was built in the late 1960’s and has recently been developed so that it now consists of 6 large classrooms.
We are a very successful school in Ofsted terms however our most important aim is to provide an education in which the children are happy and learn how to love learning.
"The enjoyment of learning is given very high priority....learning is exciting, interesting and challenging."
(Quote from Ofsted - Feb 2007)
In the earlier years (reception to year 2) the children learn the basic skills through a topic based approach which is aimed at creating interesting and motivating experiences.
In years 3 and 4 children start to build upon these skills and develop strategies that will help them solve challenges relevant to their own experiences.
Ultimately our children will grow up with the foundations to help them succeed in a fast-moving and ever-changing world.
