Class Four - Summer Term 2000

All the classes have been following a topic called 'Our World' this term although each class has had different activities. We have done a wide variety of work and would like to share with you some of our best bits so far.

We did a four week flower project in Art and D.T. which had some super results :

Stage One
looking at the work of other artists (modern and traditional),

Stage Two
looking at real plants of flowers and doing closely observed sketches, including using our Cooks Garden, Pond Area and Wildlife Area,

Stage Three
painting still life arrangements with watercolour,

Stage Four
practicing our making skills using collage materials to make small flower arrangements which were put onto a beautiful whole class frieze,

We spent a lot of time looking, discussing and sketching the pond area as it has been full of wildlife and different sorts of plants. It looked beautiful with the bright red of all the poppies.

Another favourite activity of ours in our 'Island Project' which we are currently working on. In groups of three we have designed islands that include lots of real features from places we have researched in our atlases. We made based with card, yoghurt pots, lids, tubes, packets, boxes, newspaper ...... and covered with a layer of modroc - something that we haven't used before. This are two of our plans.

Over the next few weeks we will paint the detail, build other features including rocks, volcanoes, trees and waterfalls and then finally add some animals or people that might live in our area. Our aim to to create a whole 'mini-world' complete with sea, islands and sea creatures towards the end of term - look at the next update to see our final achievements.
