Maple Class - Autumn 2003

Maple class have worked on a wide range of mini-topics within the themes of Toys, Games and Ourselves. We've looked at old and new toys and made lots of different toys and games of our own. We all really enjoyed making Punch and Judy puppets, a theatre and writing our own scripts. We performed them in front of Willow class.

This leaf work was inspired by the poem Under the Woodland Autumn Leaves by Margaret Blount. We used it for some comprehension work and then used reference books to find out about the types of creatures that would live beneath the leaves. We used our factual information to write our own version of the poem, starting with the same first two lines.

Kick up the leaves
What do you see?
Creepy crawlies under the tree,
Busying about where nobody goes
Wriggling about under your toes.
Squirming up, tunnelling down
Active insects building their town.

When Miss Devonshire says Give Me Five we have to have . . .
1. eyes looking
2. ears listening
3. lips closed
4. hands still
5. brain ready

Willow and Maple classes were visited by a Firefighter and a Police Officer. They both told us about their jobs and the special pieces of equipment that they have to use. You can go to the Willow page to see a photograph of the Firefigher.
