Class Four is taught
by Miss Devonshire.
Mrs Baker supports
in the mornings and Mrs Golder and Mrs Latty support at some other times..
Our last topic was called 'Transport, Travelling and Movement'. We had a very busy time and were especially busy making balloon powered cars, wind powered cranes and moving creatures.
We went on a trip to Coalville to find out more about forces, power and coal. It was very exciting as we had chance to push, pull, twist and turn to make lots of things happen with water, electricity and light.
This is part of a caterpillar. It has four legs that all move backwards and forwards together when you push and pull the lever.

This is the back of the caterpillar showing you how the legs were connected to the lever with split pins.

One of the pupils made a beautiful butterfly with wings that flutter up and down. It had a lever running down the middle with the top two wings connected together and the bottom two together.
This creature was the most complicated as the child had to work out how to assemble all the parts to make six legs move up and down using just one lever.

We talked about hot air balloons and wrote poems about them. We made our own for our topic book covers by weaving paper and hanging a basket from them. One of the year four children made this one.
(Remember to glue a sheet of paper on the back before you try to cut out a shape otherwise it will all fall apart!)
