Embracing Diversity Bedfordshire Diversity Programme
INFORMATION ON TRAINING AVAILABLE Since 2006 schools have had a duty to promote community cohesion and inspection of Community cohesion in schools by OFSTED will take place from September 2008. It is recommended that all staff and governors have sufficient knowledge and understanding to promote good community relations and challenge discrimination.
The Embracing Diversity workbook covers the six areas of Diversity - race & ethnicity, gender, disability, religion, age and sexual orientation - with detailed sections on increasing knowledge, making a difference, and anti-discrimination law. It links to an interactive test.
The test can be taken online or over the phone, using a unique PIN at any time to suit the individual participant. Results are sent through electronically and successful participants receive certificates endorsed by City and Guilds.
Although the program can be taken on an individual basis we recommend that it is approached as a whole school or organisation activity. Our research has found that the power of the programme is increased significantly when groups take it together by stimulating vibrant discussion in the staffroom.
It takes about 2 hours to study the book and 15 minutes to answer the 12 multiple choice questions online.
The programme is available to Bedfordshire
schools as whole school training for £20 per person or £25 per person if
taken individually. All we need from the school or organisation is a 20
minute slot in a staff meeting to introduce the programme and begin to raise
awareness of the issues, and a list of the people taking part so we can set
up access to the test.
