National Physical Education and Sport
Strategy for Young People (PESSYP)
INFORMATION ON TRAINING AVAILABLE
Physical Education and Sport courses are
detailed in the joint ‘Bedfordshire and Luton Portfolio of Continued
Professional Development for PE and Sport.’
The courses offered within the portfolio are
part of the national programme of CPD linked to the National Physical
Education and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP, formerly known as
PESSCL).
The government have invested in this programme
to help it to achieve the target of all pupils taking part in, and enjoying,
up to five hours of high quality physical education and school sport each
week. This target reflects the potential that high quality PE and Sport has
for making a difference to young people and whole school improvement.
In line with this, the professional development
programme aims to:

raise the quality of teaching and learning
in PE and Sport by helping schools and other to deliver broad, balanced
and inclusive PE and Sport
-
improve schools’ understanding of how they
can use high quality PE and Sport as a tool for school improvement,
particularly in terms of attendance, behaviour management and raising
attainment
-
improve schools’ understanding of how they
can use high quality PE and Sport to support healthy lifestyles and
physical activity
-
encourage schools to interpret the PE
programme in an innovative way so that they meet the needs of all young
people better and enhance their achievements
-
develop cross phase continuity and support a
whole school approach to improvement and raising standards
