PSG Update Autumn Term 2008
INFORMATION ON TRAINING AVAILABLE What is a PSG?
A Professional Study Group (PSG) is a ‘special interest’ group: a group of teachers with a particular interest meeting together on a regular basis to share ideas and report back on how these ideas are impacting on their practice.
How do they work?
PSGs are led and co-ordinated by Advanced Skills Teachers (ASTs), consultants and other lead professionals.
Where PSGs are subject-based, PSG meetings may fall into three sections: (i) input re teaching and learning strategy/focus; (ii) time to plan lessons using the teaching and learning strategy; (iii) feedback on the previous teaching and learning focus and sharing of materials.
The focus of the PSG often reflects current educational priorities (eg Local or National initiatives) but should be agreed with participants.
How much do they cost?
Schools are asked to pay a yearly subscription fee entitling them to PSG membership for the year (ie they can send as many staff as they like to as many PSGs as they like). If schools do not subscribe they are asked to pay £30 per PSG per person.
How do I book a place?
Contact Gillian Wrigglesworth, PSG Administrator: gillian.wrigglesworth@bedscc.gov.uk or telephone 01234 836105.
