Children’s Workforce Development

Directory 2009-10

Introduction

The newly formed Children’s Workforce Development Team is placed in the Learning and Schools Support Sub-directorate, but has the remit to co-ordinate the needs of the entire Children, Families and Learning Directorate for Central Bedfordshire. It covers the three main areas of recruitment and retention, professional and staff development, and workforce modernisation and reform.

We are pleased to provide in this directory information about a range of CPD opportunities for the Children’s Workforce of Central Bedfordshire Council. Some areas of support are managed centrally by the Children’s Workforce Development Team, but many are held with other providers, including Bedford Borough Council and others outside the geographical area. In these cases the Directory provides a sign-post to these providers.

Much of the support provided to school-based staff is provided by local Training Schools, with whom we have entered into a partnership to ensure coverage of support is consistent across the Local Authority and, where appropriate, locally delivered. While specific funded support is available only to Central Bedfordshire staff, we are happy to extend our offer to Bedford Borough and other neighbouring areas where appropriate.

Another document that appears in this introduction is a compilation of all the priorities identified by key national organisations related to children’s workforce. You may find it useful to compare these priorities with those of your own particular organisation when developing any action plans.

We look forward to working with you and we hope you will enjoy the opportunity to train and work with an increasingly wide range of colleagues from the Children’s Workforce, thus gaining a greater understanding of the work others do for children as well as enriching your own expertise.

We have ensured that the first paper version of this directory is available within the first few months of the existence of Central Bedfordshire. Because of this, it is inevitable that this version will be incomplete. We are committed to full coverage across the entire Children’s Workforce, and will be constantly adding to the directory as it appears on our website, which leads you to our fully searchable e-version of training and support, as well as providing links to partner providers. Please use the web version, therefore, to ensure you have the most up to date information.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you know of other providers who should appear in this Directory.

Yours sincerely,

sig

Councillor Mrs Anita M Lewis

Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services
